The Unholy Trinity And Why It Matters

Over the last few weeks, I stumbled upon the recent works of Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris - who go under the infamous moniker of "The Unholy Trinity" and their various critiques of religious doctrine, the advocacy thereof and the impact it has had in our political discourse over the last few years particularly after the events of September 11, 2001. The refrain across the three books is the same - why have we, the people, as a collective ignored the dangers of religion and why some of us, who call ourselves "liberals" and "moderates" have succumbed to euphemisms and not denounced religious extremism as a legitimate threat to our civilization. All the three books attempt - in some way - to open a dialog with the open-minded and urge them to shatter the veil of ignorance. It might be a bitter pill to swallow to some - so I suggest the reading in steps - and hopefully by the end of it you would be left questioning yourself, if not just once.
